SEATTLE-U.S. consumers with Motorola Inc. Razr or Sanyo Corp. SCP-8200 handsets are more likely to consume mobile content than owners of any other wireless phone, according to new figures from M:Metrics.
The firm’s latest study found that half of all Sanyo SCP-8200 owners purchased ringtones or other wireless content, and 48 percent of Razr users were mobile data consumers. Motorola produced five of the top six handsets in terms of overall number of mobile data users, according to the study; Nokia Corp. placed only one phone among the top 10.
“There are several contributing factors that make one device more compelling than another for mobile content consumption,” said Seamus McAteer, a senior analyst at M:Metrics. “The Sanyo SCP-8200 has the highest conversion rate in the industry thanks to Sprint’s clean implementation of browser-based services, and the Razr’s large, bright LCD promotes use of browser-based services and game downloading.”
Sprint Nextel Corp. sells the Sanyo handset, while Cingular Wireless L.L.C., T-Mobile USA Inc. and other GSM carriers sell the Razr.
