MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.-Alvarion Ltd. announced that its BreezeACCESS VL is the wireless broadband base station muscle behind Rioplex Wireless’ 5,000-square-mile deployment in Texas targeting high-capacity consumers and businesses using unlicensed spectrum.
Rioplex is an end-to-end wireless operator that owns its backbone and last-mile networks and tower infrastructure throughout its service territory in south Texas and the Rio Grande area, which is mostly rural and dotted with small towns. The operator said the high-capacity BreezeACCESS VL has enabled it to expand its network from serving residential and small business customers using licensed spectrum to targeting high-bandwidth consumers and businesses using unlicensed spectrum.
Alvarion explained that its BreezeACCESS VL offers features such as OFDM for non-line-of-sight connections, extended reach of more than 12 miles, encryption and quality of service mechanisms for broadband data and voice services.
In other Alvarion news, the company said a large Latin American operator placed an initial $7 million order under a new frame agreement for its BreezeMAX base stations and eMGW products. The company said that depending on the mix of products ordered, the frame agreement could be worth around $15 million.
Alvarion said revenue from the order will be posted in 2006.
The contract news pushed the company’s stock on the Nasdaq up 42 cents, or 4.9 percent, during Wednesday afternoon trading. The stock has traded between $7.26 and $14.23 in the past 52 weeks, and was trading at around $9.05 Thursday morning.
