GetLisa launches Katrina messaging service

BOULDER, Colo.-Wireless software developer GetLisa Information Services Inc. launched a mobile Web-based messaging service for families and friends of those impacted by Hurricane Katrina.

The service, dubbed KatrinaNetwork.org, allows users seeking information to create listings about missing people in the Gulf Coast. Subscribers then can opt in to receive text alerts to their handsets or PCs as new information is posted.

The offering is free aside from carrier messaging charges. Micro.Local, the company’s proprietary wireless self-publishing tool, is powering the service.

“Thousands of displaced people across the Gulf states are taking refuge in shelters with no Web access,” said George Woodward, GetLisa’s chief executive officer. “By sharing Internet-capable cell phones, people can get the word out that they’re safe.”
