FCC reports first-quarter wireless complaints

WASHINGTON-The Federal Communications Commission Monday reported the number of wireless service complaints it received during the first quarter of the year.

While the FCC tracks the total number of inquiries received by mail, fax, e-mail or telephone, an inquiry is counted if it identifies a specific carrier, alleges a violation and seeks relief. Wireless inquiries increased to 7,330 during the first three months of the year from 4,369 during the final quarter of 2004. However, the number was a decrease from the 8,830 complaints the agency received during the first quarter of 2004.

“The FCC receives many inquiries and complaints that do not involve violations of the Communications Act or a commission rule. The existence of a complaint does not necessarily indicate wrongdoing by the company at issue,” said the agency.
