OCALA, Fla.—Mobile-phone recycling company RMS Communications Group Inc. made two announcements this week.
The company’s RecycleForUS.com phone recycling initiative began operations at the beginning of this month. The industry-funded national recycling program follows a similar statewide Web site, RecycleForCalifornia.com.
Using the site, consumers and organizations can turn in old phones or sell them for cash. Nonprofit organizations, businesses and government agencies can collect cell phones and recycle them through the site. Program materials and shipping are free to collecting organizations.
The company said all cell phones collected would be accepted.
In addition, the company’s CellForCash.com subsidiary called for more phone donations to its 911 Cell Phone Bank program, which donates phones and cash to law enforcement agencies and affiliated groups. Those wishing to donate can print a mailing label from the company’s Web site and mail in their phone postage paid.
The company said it donates about 1,000 cell phones per month through the program. The agencies that receive the phones distribute them to shelters, abuse victims and senior citizens.
