HONG KONG-Hutchison 3G Italy, a subsidiary of Hong Kong-based Hutchison Whampoa Ltd., said it will purchase Cirtel’s stake in Hutchison 3G Italia, which operates a third-generation service under the 3 brand in Italy. The purchase price for the 1.6-percent stake is $633 million.
The deal also includes repayment of a loan made by Cirtel to Hutchison 3G Italia. Hutchison now owns about 90 percent of its Italian subsidiary.
The carrier said its customer numbers in Italy exceeded 2.6 million as of Dec. 23.
