Cisco names Giancarlo CTO, announces reorganization

SAN JOSE, Calif.-Cisco Systems Inc. has announced Charles Giancarlo as its new chief technology officer as part of the company’s technology reorganization.

He becomes the first CTO since April 2000 when Judy Esrin quit the position.

The technology organization is led by Mario Mazzola, senior vice president and chief development officer.

“We continue to strengthen the technology team and promote our next generation of leaders under Mario’s direction,” said John Chambers, president and chief executive officer of the company.

The company also named Jayshree Ullal as senior vice president for the newly formed security technology group and Luca Cafiero as vice president for the data center, storage, switching and wireless technology group.

Other appointments include Tony Bates as vice president and general manager for the carrier core multi-service unit, Kathy Hill as vice president and general manager of the mid-range and stackable switching technology group, and Kambiz Hooshmand as vice president and general manager of the optical and broadband transport technology group.
