InfoSpace buys gaming company Atlas Mobile

BELLEVUE, Wash.-The mobile gaming industry continued its contraction, with the announcement that InfoSpace Inc. acquired the assets of Atlas Mobile Inc., a provider of wireless multiplayer tournament games.

The value of the acquisition was not disclosed.

“The acquisition of Atlas Mobile’s multiplayer tournament game platform and portfolio of games accelerates our entry into the fast-growing mobile games market,” said Jim Voelker, chairman and chief executive officer of InfoSpace.

Atlas Mobile offers games such as Tetris Tournament for Prizes and Solitaire for Prizes. The games allow mobile-phone players to compete against each other to win prizes in continuous and progressive tournaments. The games are available to Verizon Wireless, Alltel, Midwest Wireless, U.S. Cellular and Western Wireless customers.

The Atlas Mobile buy follows InfoSpace’s recent acquisition of ring tone and wireless media company Moviso and its profitable quarterly results, which showed strong gains in wireless revenue.
