Sonofon joins European carrier alliance

COPENHAGEN, Denmark-Danish mobile carrier Sonofon is joining a European alliance of wireless operators. The Starmap Mobile Alliance consists of 10 small European mobile operators representing a total of more than 46 million mobile customers.

“Ideally, our customers should be able to access the same services wherever they are. We are pleased to join the Starmap Mobile Alliance and look forward to providing even better services for our customers when travelling abroad,” said Tage Reinert, chief executive officer of Sonofon.

The carrier will immediately begin collaborating on the roaming, sales and marketing initiatives set by the alliance. The alliance said its expansion reinforces its ambition to increase coverage and scale in key geographical areas. The alliance was established last year to better compete with the scale of larger European carriers.

The Starmap Mobile Alliance is composed of Amena (Spain), O2 (Germany, United Kingdom and Ireland), One (Austria), Pannon GSM (Hungary), Sonofon (Denmark), Sunrise (Switzerland), Telenor Mobil (Norway) and Wind (Italy).
