Carrier spending set to increase in next several years

CEDAR KNOLLS, N.J.-Mobile carriers worldwide will increase their spending to $763 million by 2008, well up from the $262 million expected to be spent in 2004, according to research from Probe Group.

Carriers are garnering revenues from their 2.5G networks and behind-the-scenes activity on 3G will soon show results, according to Allan Tumolillo, chief operating officer at Probe. “In the U.S., Verizon and Sprint PCS are at last reporting the number of data subscribers on their CDMA 1xRTT networks. Vodafone appears to be successful with its Live! network, having sold 3 million Live! compatible phones.”
