Nortel deploys multiservice switches for BaykalWestcom

MOSCOW-Nortel Networks Ltd. said it has deployed multiservice switches for wireless operator BaykalWestcom’s network connecting the cities of Irkutsk, Bratsk and Ust-Ilim in Eastern Europe.

Nortel’s product, known as Passport 7480, supports multiple networking applications simultaneously. It enhances packet voice and data services, and it also covers radio access networks and core transport solutions for GSM, UMTS, CDMA and CDMA450 networks.

“With Nortel Networks Passport multiservice switches in our network, we will be able to broaden our service offerings and optimize our networking costs,” said Vladimir Shapovalov, general director at BaykalWestcom.
