Summer movies and wireless tie-ins continue

The summer movie season continues to tie into wireless, with AT&T Wireless Services Inc. scoring an exclusive deal with Paramount Pictures for its upcoming “Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life” motion picture.

AT&T Wireless developed a range of games, ring tones, screensavers and other wireless content in conjunction with the movie. The carrier also set up a trivia campaign through a short code registration and will offer a special issue of its mMode wireless data magazine to cover the campaign.

“To us, the real value is that consumers can carry around a little piece of Tomb Raider after they leave the movie theater on a device that almost never leaves their side,” said Lisa DiMarzio, senior vice president of worldwide marketing partnerships at Paramount. “The wireless phone is one of the next great frontiers for entertainment services, and we’re proud to work with a pioneer like AT&T Wireless to bring our content to today’s mobile society.”

In other movie and content news, wireless messaging company Mobileway and its partner Mobile Internet Group Pty. Ltd. said they scored a deal to offer wireless content based on the upcoming “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle” movie throughout Australia, France, New Zealand, Italy, Spain, Singapore, China, India, and South Africa. Cingular Wireless has a deal to offer content based on the movie in the United States.

Finally, Yamaha Corp. said it signed a deal with ring tone company Moviso and carrier Verizon Wireless to offer polyphonic ring tones to Verizon subscribers. The new Yamaha Ringtones service will be available on select Motorola, LG, Audiovox and Kyocera handsets.

“Yamaha’s premium audio technology is recognized worldwide, and now Verizon Wireless customers will experience the highest quality available in mobile applications,” said Shawn Conahan, president of Moviso.
