PalmSource deals meant to bolster enterprise appeal

NEW YORK-Palm Inc.’s operating system business PalmSource announced a range of new deals to bolster the enterprise appeal of its product, including new agreements with IBM Corp., Visto Corp., Novell and others.

Under PalmSource’s deal with IBM, the companies said they plan to collaborate on a Web services software stack, including support for Web service standards. The move will include standards like the Extensible Markup Language, Simple Object Access Protocol and Web Services Definition Language.

Separately, PalmSource signed several deals to offer access to corporate e-mail. Visto will work to offer push-e-mail capabilities among Palm devices and Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino and POP3/IMAP mail servers. PalmSource also said it will work with Novell to promote access to the Novell GroupWise and Novell ZENworks through partnerships with Nexic Inc. and Notify Technology Corp.
