SAN JOSE, Calif.-Java microprocessor company AJile Systems Inc. announced it created a development kit and game cartridge that will allow Nintendo fans to play Java games on their Game Boys.
The move is unprecedented, as wireless companies are looking to mirror the success of mobile-gaming platforms like the Game Boy by allowing mobile-phone users to download similar games using Java technology.
AJile’s Java game cartridge plugs into the external card slot on Game Boys and allows users to run Java games downloaded from the Internet.
“For the first time, AJile’s JAMiD game development kit links the huge Java development community with the enormous Game Boy user community,” said Danh Le Ngoc, the company’s vice president of marketing. “We expect that consumer products based on our JAMiD cartridge will bring wireless and peer-to-peer gaming and entertainment to the millions-strong standalone game player market.”
