Siemens releases handset using Nokia platform

CANNES, France-Siemens Information and Communication Mobile released an advanced new mobile phone to be sold in the next few months in Europe and Asia, the first phone from the company to use Nokia Corp.’s Series 60 software platform.

The SX1 device, which offers a large color screen since the number keys are located on the sides of the device, features a video player, camcorder and support for Java applications and multimedia messaging services.

Nokia’s Series 60 platform is built on the Symbian OS and includes Nokia’s user interface. Nokia is in the early stages of an operating system battle with Microsoft Corp.
