Agere reports lower net loss

ALLENTOWN, Pa.-Agere Systems said it had a fourth-quarter loss of $146 million, or 9 cents per share, in contrast with a loss of $375 million, or 23 cents per share, in the same period last year.

Its revenue was $436 million, down 2 percent compared with $445 million a year ago.

“With major restructuring initiatives either completed or well under way, our key priority now is to build a solid foundation for revenue and market share growth,” said John Dickson, president and chief executive officer of the company.

“We are encouraged by our strong customer engagements in areas such as GPRS, Wi-Fi, storage and enterprise networking.”
