BUENOS AIRES, Argentina-Three operators were prequalified to participate in the personal communications services (PCS) auction, which will take place on 8 November in Ecuador, by the National Telecommunications Council (Conatel). The operators are Entel Chile, owned by Telecom Italia Mobile; Tricom, a Dominican Republic-based company, in partnership with a local cable television company; and a joint venture formed by the state regional telephone companies Andinatel and Pacifictel.
The base cost of the 30 megahertz band at 1900 MHz was fixed at US$32 million, of which US$1.5 million will be allocated to the cost of moving 30 radio and television transmittors that are currently occupying this broadband frequency.
