Indian telecom consortium to offer WLL services in Nepal

NEW DELHI, India-United Telecom Limited (UTL), an Indo-Nepalese joint venture, will offer basic services using wireless local loop in the Himalayan kingdom.

The company has deposited US$1.3 million as a license fee with the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA), the regulating agency, and is required to launch the service within nine months.

UTL is a joint venture among of three Indian companies-TCIL, MTNL and VSNL-and Venture Nepal Limited. In the first year of operation, UTL is expected to serve 25,000 customers.
