PASADENA, Calif.-Omnilux Inc.’s wireless broadband platform is now available and has been deployed with Calif.-based regional Internet service providers Sonic.net, Succeed.net and RedWire Broadband.
Omnilux’s platform provides high-speed Internet access via free-space optics rather than traditional digital subscriber line or cable networks.
“By using an unregulated portion of spectrum, known as IR light, our customers can avoid expensive and time-consuming radio spectrum allocation procedures,” explained Carter Moursund, vice president of technology and co-founder of Omnilux. “And unlike other unregulated spectrum, FSO signals do not interfere with each other, ensuring ISPs that their service is not degraded or interrupted.”
Sonic.net, Succeed.net and RedWire Broadband all plan to offer the high-speed Internet access to their customers in the fourth quarter of this year. Omnilux said it anticipates announcing additional deployments in early 2003.
