BEIJING—China Telecom has split into two companies in order to allow each one to streamline its efforts toward profitability.
China Telecom will cover the south and western networks, while the northern networks will be under a new company known as China Netcom Communication Group Corp.
Both companies will be allowed to compete against each other.
