House Commerce Committee passes 700 MHz auction delay bill

WASHINGTON—The House Commerce Committee passed by voice vote on Thursday a bill directing the Federal Communications Commission to delay the 700 MHz auction.

House floor action on the Auction Reform Act of 2002 could occur as early as next week, said Rep. Fred Upton (R-Mich.), chairman of the House telecommunications subcommittee.

The only noticeable dissention came from Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.), who represents Paxson Communications Corp., an incumbent TV broadcaster in the 700 MHz band that has threatened to sue the FCC if it does not go forward with the auction as scheduled on June 19.
