Econet Nigeria cuts access fee on packages

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa—Econet Nigeria has announced that it reduced the fee of its monthly contract package called Business Parta from US$35 to US$21.

Bolaji Balogum, chief marketing officer for the operator, said the reductions are due because Econet had listened to the needs of subscribers, adding that the contract was extended beyond the corporate world and is now accessible to individual users.

In addition to the reduced access charges, the company also announced a new tariff package. During the peak daytime period, the tariff has been reduced from US$0.25 to US$0.21 per minute, the off-peak period saw a reduction in tariff to US$0.15 per minute. In what the operator termed the “wonder zone period”—the middle of the night to early morning— tariffs were further reduced to US$0.08 per minute.

The network launched a new incentive called Extend and Embrace, which allows an individual to get connected after paying a deposit of US$87 with an acquisition cost of US$153. Additional benefits of the package are said to be the ability to send and receive faxes and data and access news via handsets.
