NEW ORLEANS—Telecom staffing and hiring companies are optimistic regarding job security and job outlooks for the telecom industry this year, according to a recent study by TelecomCareers.Net.
The company surveyed more than 600 recruiting and human resources professional in the telecom field on expectations for 2002’s telecom job outlook. Only 7 percent of those surveyed said their companies plan to reduce the number of employees this year, and over half said they will actually hire this year.
Seventy-two percent of the staffing companies polled said they expect telecom hiring to pick up by the second quarter of 2002, while 74 percent of hiring companies said “growth hiring” should resume by the third quarter. In addition, a majority of staffing and hiring companies predicted telecom will be strong or mediocre in 2002 and 75 percent of those surveyed said they feel secure in their own jobs as well as for this year’s telecom job seekers.
“As the industry prepares for a lean 2002—with streamlined operations and more conservative business plans—it’s encouraging to see that many companies have made plans to add new hires in the coming months,” said Kara Nelson, director of media services at TelecomCareers.Net.
