Oftel imposes U.K. price controls

LONDON—U.K. telecom regulator Oftel imposed price controls on the country’s four mobile operators, saying British consumers would save $1.2 billion during the next four years. The controls will reduce revenues for the carriers by about $884 million, Oftel said.

The controls are less stringent than many industry insiders had predicted.
Existing terminal charge controls on Vodafone and BT Cellnet now apply to Orange and One 2 One as well.
