RESTON, Va.-Nextel Communications Inc. announced plans to expand its Direct Connect digital two-way radio service into nationwide service by the end of next year.
Last month, Nextel introduced improved Direct Connect service allowing any subscriber to communicate with other subscribers in the same home calling area. All of the carrier’s markets are expected to have access to this service by the end of the third quarter.
Nextel said the nationwide service will allow customers to travel outside their home calling areas and still remain in contact through the Direct Connect feature.
