TOKYO—NEC, the leading high-tech enterprise in Japan, and Cybird, a mobile content provider, partnered for a content business in Korea. Under the deal, NEC acquired 15.4 percent of Cybird Korea, a business unit of Cybird in Korea. SK Telecom, the largest mobile carrier in Korea, also holds another 15.4 percent of Cybird Korea.
NEC and Cybird Korea later this month will start providing three original content services for SK Telecom’s Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) services. Both firms have been providing two Japanese content services for SK Telecom after localization.
NEC and Cybird are planning to provide a variety of content for other carriers in Asia and Europe.
