SAN JOSE, California, United States—Metricom announced it will cease operations in all its markets on Wednesday, 8 August, to conduct a wind down of its business and to sell all its assets. An auction has been scheduled for 16 August.
Metricom also will lay off another 282 employees. The remaining employees will shut down the network during the next three weeks, and a small team of employees will remain with the company through the end of October to oversee the liquidation process.
Customers will have access to e-mail accounts reliant on the Ricochet network until 8 August, Metricom said.
