BEDMINSTER, N.J.-Verizon Wireless signed an agreement to acquire 10 MHz PCS licenses from Carolina PCS I L.P. and its subsidiaries, covering the South Carolina Basic Trading Areas of Anderson, Charleston, Columbia, Florence, Greenville, Myrtle Beach, Orangeburg and Sumter. The licenses cover approximately 3.4 million pops.
Verizon said it plans to use the licenses, which overlap its wireless operations in South Carolina, to handle future demand for wireless voice and data services. The deal is expected to close during the third quarter.
