HELSINKI, Finland-Nokia has been chosen by several companies to provide its third-generation network solution. Nokia said its 3G infrastructure is based on open standards, platforms and interfaces critical for evolution to commercial 3G services in a multivendor network.
Nokia will deliver its 3G Wideband-CDMA Radio Access Network, including base stations, to Netcom, a Norwegian mobile operator. The agreement also includes the Nokia Smart Radio Concept, its Network Management solution, and its 3G-integration expertise. “NetCom is investing in the future and with Nokia we will be helping to transform the mobile communications landscape in Norway. This agreement will enable us to bring an array of advanced mobile Internet services to our subscribers.” said Terje Christoffersen, chief executive officer at NetCom.
The Austrian company ONE has also chosen Nokia to supply a 3G system for new mobile Internet services. Nokia is the supplier for ONE’s GSM network and also delivered GPRS for the creation of high-speed packet data services in ONE’s mobile network.
Nokia will also supply its 3G network to Telia, a Nordic telecom operator. According to their agreement, Nokia will supply Telia with the advanced 3G packet core and 3G W-CDMA RAN solution in Finland and Norway, with an additional option for Denmark subject to license.
