WOODBRIDGE, N.J.-BellSouth Wireless Data L.L.P. said it will launch a wireless Web proxy server and microbrowser based on Geoworks Corp.’s AirBoss technology.
The deal will allow all devices operating on BSWD’s Mobitex-based Intelligent Wireless Network to access wireless Internet content. It also provides an HTTP-based standard for developers to use to write and extend applications for wireless use. BSWD said it expects to offer connectivity to both corporate enterprise data as well as BSWD-branded lifestyle data, creating a content portal to give customers the ability to receive alerts and request specific content via a customized page. Geoworks recently acquired the AirBoss client/server solution from Telcordia Technologies Inc.
