U.S. Cellular revenues increase, net income down

CHICAGO-United States Cellular Corp. reported revenues for the second quarter ended June 30 of $397.7 million, a 10.2-percent increase from the $361 million reported for the same period last year.

The company recorded net income of $50.7 million, or 57 cents per diluted common share, compared with net income of $194.9 million, or $2.09 per diluted common share, recorded for second-quarter 1999.

John E. Rooney, president and chief executive officer of U.S. Cellular, said the company’s churn rate for the postpaid business remained at 1.7 percent for the quarter.
