Solectron Corp. completed its acquisition of Americom Wireless Services, a privately held company specializing in wireless handset repair and refurbishment and outsourced technical customer-support services. Solectron, a supply-chain facilitator of customized electronics technology, manufacturing and service solutions, received specialized repair and testing equipment and assumed responsibility for Americom’s business operations in Los Angeles, Baltimore, Dallas and Louisville, Ky., as part of the acquisition.
Datalink.net signed a letter of intent to acquire Cross Communications Inc., a behind-the-firewall wireless data communications solutions provider. “Cross Communications brings outstanding engineering talent and top-level corporate clients,” said Anthony LaPine, chairman and chief executive officer of Datalink.net. “Datalink.net’s sales and marketing team, and our joint wireless business enterprise solutions will be an unbeatable combination in delivering wireless applications to businesses.”
Inktomi Corp. and Hewlett-Packard Co. announced they have allied to enable Inktomi’s Traffic Server and Content Delivery Suite to run on the HP-UX and other HP 9000 server family products. The companies also said they will explore further opportunities to integrate Inktomi’s network products with HP’s Wireless Application Protocol gateway and Open View products.
Puma Technology Inc. announced it will begin doing business under the name Pumatech. The company will ask shareholders to legally change the name of the firm at its next annual meeting.
WebLink Wireless Inc. signed a resale agreement with Aquis Communications Group Inc., allowing Aquis to market two-way messaging and wireless e-mail services to customers.
Objectsoft Inc. introduced a wireless portal service called NotWired, designed to host group scheduling, reminder services, messages and other services for Wireless Application Protocol devices. The service is aimed particularly at small to medium-sized businesses.
