Study shows wireless is mainstream

WASHINGTON-Wireless telephone use has moved from a niche market into the mainstream, according to a new report released by the Cellular Telecommunications Industry Association.

The study, conducted by Peter D. Hart Research Associates Inc. for CTIA, noted that the lower costs of both wireless products and services has led to the mainstream adoption of these devices.

The study also showed that long-time wireless phone users are more likely to use their service for business purposes and are men between the ages of 35 and 59 with annual incomes of more than $75,000. Wireless customers who have had service for less than one year are more likely to be women between the ages of 18 and 34, and have annual incomes of less than $50,000.

The wireless industry as a whole showed very well in the survey when compared with other telecommunications sectors. Wireless earned high scores for value, with 47 percent of respondents saying wireless companies provide a “good” or “above average” buy, the same as online service providers.
