SAN DIEGO-Leap Wireless International Inc. has agreed to sell for $16.3 million its Australian subsidiary, OzPhone Pty. Ltd., to an affiliate of AAPT Ltd., Australia’s third largest telecommunications company.
Leap said it had planned to offer flat-rate, unlimited use service in Australia, but certain market and regulatory issues in Australia caused it to conclude it could achieve greater shareholder return by the sale of its licenses than it could in years of operation.
