SPIKE COMPLETES BROADBAND WLL SYSTEM IN VENEZUELA

NEW ORLEANS-Spike Technologies Inc. completed the first phase of a new broadband wireless local loop installation in Caracas, Venezuela, the company announced.

Red Platino, an official Venezuelan government agency focusing on the development of information technology infrastructure, represents the second Spike customer installation in Venezuela.

Red Platino chose Spike’s PRIZM Broadband Delivery System. PRIZM BDS is designed for the 2.1 GHz to 2.7 GHz and the 3.4 GHz to 3.7 GHz frequency bands. A single BDS, with line of sight up to 30 miles, covers up to 2,800 square miles, said Spike.

“Our mission was to construct a reliable high-speed network for the official national government telecommunications,” said Alejandro Bermudez, director, IT, Red Platino. “The Spike PRIZM system is very quick, up to 10 megabits per second in each sector, and we have received positive feedback from the government offices we have connected at this time.

“Currently we have more than 50 locations online, with multiple users in each location. Our goal is to network more than 400 locations. The Ministry of Defense is one example of a government agency going through this network. It connects more than 750 computers to a single subscriber unit,” said Bermudez.
