BENEFON LICENSES TEGIC’S T9 TEXT INPUT

SEATTLE-Tegic Communications announced Nov. 24 that Finland-based Benefon has licensed its T9 text input product.

“T9 enables users to enter text as they would on a desktop keyboard, using just one key press per letter,” said Jorma Nieminen, president and co-founder of Benefon.

According to Tomi Raita, Benefon’s director of sales and marketing, there is a particular need for the new Benefon GSM phone with T9 messaging in the European market, where short message service use recently has exploded in many countries.

T9 is available in more than 10 languages, including character-based versions of Chinese, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish. A Japanese version is expected to be introduced by year-end.
