NEW VENTURE FUND RAISES CAPITAL

NEW YORK-Communications Ventures, a Palo Alto, Calif., venture capital firm specializing in early-stage communications companies, said it has raised $125 million for its third venture fund.

Several new limited partners have been added to the Communications Ventures III fund, including Ameritech Corp., Harvard Private Capital Group, Knightsbridge Advisors, Hamilton College and U.S. Trust.

They join existing investors: Tells, Horsy Bridge, Mutual of Omaha, Bank of America, Harbour Vest Partners, Flag Venture Management, the University of Richmond and Minnesota Mutual Life Insurance.

Communications Ventures said it invests exclusively in communications and networking companies, including those involved in wireless communications, local loop transmission, data networking, Internet infrastructure, high-capacity switching, network security, fiber optics, computer telephony and next-generation customer premises equipment.
