TAIPEI, Taiwan-Northern Telecom Ltd. signed a memorandum of understanding with the Taiwan National University for a trial of a broadband wireless access demonstration network.
The Directorate General of Telecommunications in Taiwan has been developing a policy framework for future allocation of spectrum and adoption of Local Multipoint Distribution Services. The trial network will be used as a case study, said Nortel.
The trial network will use Nortel’s Reunion broadband ATM (asynchronous transfer mode) wireless access solution, which can offer any combination of voice, data, Internet and video conferencing services over high-speed wireless links, said the company. The trial will test such applications as distance learning, video conferencing, multimedia digital libraries and telemedicine.
