KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa.-InterDigital Technology Corp. entered into patent license agreements with two unnamed Japanese manufacturers of digital cellular equipment, resulting in up-front payments of $33 million.
One licensee will pay the ITC future royalties on the sale of products based on Personal Digital Cellular and Personal Handyphone System technologies.
The other license was granted a fully paid status, but the licensee will pay future royalties on products based on the Time Division Multiple Access, Global System for Mobile communications, Digital Cellular System and other standards.
Both licensees receive fixed credit totaling about $9 million toward future royalty payments.
“One of our principal objectives for 1998 is to realize licensing revenues from leading companies around the world who use our inventions,” said William Doyle, president of ITC’s parent company, InterDigital Communications Corp.
“To do that, we have been strengthening our TDMA patent licensing program, confirming the validity of our patents in many nations, seeking additional new patent coverage and pursuing new licensees.”
