NATURAL CONTINUES TO LOOK STRONG

Natural MicroSystems Corp. reported a 26-percent increase in revenues for the first quarter, to $20 million, from $15.9 million during the first quarter of 1997.

Net income for the quarter totaled $2.1 million, or 19 cents per share, compared with net income of $1.8 million, or 17 cents per share, for the corresponding quarter last year.

“The fundamentals of our business continue to look very strong,” said Bob Schechter, chairman and chief executive officer of Natural MicroSystems. “We are disappointed that our first-quarter revenues were impacted by project delays and shortfalls by a few large customers.

“Nevertheless, we had an outstanding quarter in terms of new customer and design wins, and our products and strategies continue to be well-received by customers and prospective partners worldwide.”

Schechter said the company’s Fusion 2.0 Internet Protocol telephony platform has gained acceptance and achieved significant new design wins.
