MOTOROLA UNVEILS NETWORK PLAN NING TOOL

FORT WORTH, Texas-Motorola Inc.’s Messaging Systems Products Group released its network optimization design service, called Mozaik, to paging operators worldwide.

Mozaik is a design tool to help paging providers determine infrastructure needs when building a new network. The program subdivides coverage areas into small sectors and analyzes plot coverage by creating a color-coded topography of a planned or existing system.

The program uses Motorola’s network performance statistical database and also taps global geographic databases.

According to Motorola, Mozaik can compute distance to sites, terrain elevation, land usage, free-space losses, prediction of model basic loss, mean signal level and margin vs. target reliability.

The Mozaik analysis most recently was used by Mobile Telecommunication Technologies Corp. to determine where it had excess transmitters in busy metropolitan markets.

“Motorola’s analysis improved our network design from the original plan,” said Ali Tabassi, vice president of RF Network Operations and Engineering at Mtel.
