NORTEL, CELLNET TEAM TO OFFER IN TERNET TO CUSTOMERS VIA SMARTPHONE APPS

MAIDENHEAD, United Kingdom-Northern Telecom Ltd. and Cellnet announced the start of a joint project to bring next-generation information and communication services to Cellnet’s mobile telephone users.

Cellnet will be offering customers online access with its Genie PC-based Internet product using Nortel’s Orbitor, the name for its Java-enabled Global System for Mobile communications handset.

This is the first of a number of world trials Nortel will announce over the coming months, the company noted.

“The decision to work with Nortel in this area was a straightforward one for us,” Brian Greasley, the head of Cellnet’s new product development said. “We both recognize that customers will only buy new services if they are easy to use and deliver true value. Over the coming months, we will be working with Nortel to deliver many of the Genie applications to the smartphone environment.”
