KMT NOW OFFERING NEW RATE PLANS

SEOUL, South Korea-Korea Mobile Telecom has introduced three new rate plans that it says will reduce service charges by about 12 percent on average, or 18 percent on straight line usage.

Korea Mobile also has lowered the monthly access fee by 4 percent, to $25, the company said.

The three new rate plans are: Premium, $68 per month, 270 minutes free; Business, $68 per month for more than five numbers, 12 cents to 18 cents per minute; Economy, $20 per month for weekends and off-peak hours, 6 cents per minute.

During the past year, Korea Mobile has expanded its digital footprint to cover all 78 cities in South Korea, reaching 80 percent of the population, the company said.

Korea Mobile first launched Code Division Multiple Access technology in metropolitan Seoul a year ago and has expanded to other areas. The company markets the service as Digital 011 and reported a 76 percent subscriber increase at year-end 1996.

Korea Mobile claims 2.9 million customers and forecasts that the total number of Korean subscribers will grow to 4.2 million by year-end 1997.
