NORTHERN TELECOM TO SUPPLY BELL MOBILITY WITH EQUIPMENT

TORONTO-Northern Telecom Ltd. has signed an agreement with Bell Mobility to supply equipment for Bell Mobility’s cellular and personal communications services networks. Nortel said it values the agreement at approximately $293 million.

The deal resulted from a memorandum of understanding signed by the companies in April. The arrangement calls for Nortel to supply its 800 MHz and 1900 MHz Code Division Multiple Access infrastructure equipment to Bell Mobility over the next five years.

“We are enhancing our wireless networks with the latest technology, which translates to exciting new services for customers,” said Randy Reynolds, senior vice president of Bell Mobility’s market and network development. “These include sought after digital personal communications services, such as enhanced call security, alphanumeric messaging and unparalleled sound quality.”

Joe Sarnecki, vice president of sales and marketing for Nortel’s wireless networks added, “Our advanced cellular and PCS platforms will allow Bell Mobility to continue to deliver enhanced voice and state-of-the-art advanced services over both the 800 MHz and 1900 MHz CDMA infrastructures. This will offer uninterrupted ubiquitous services over Bell Mobility’s entire service area.”

Bell Mobility is a subsidiary of BCE Mobile Communications Inc.
