AT DEADLINE: GOLDEN ACCEPTED AS NANC MEMBER

ALEXANDRIA, Va.-Mark Golden, senior vice president of Industry Affairs for the Personal Communications Industry Association, has been accepted as a voting member of the Federal Communications Commission’s North American Numbering Council. Golden was chosen to represent PCIA and the wireless telecommunications industry.

Historically, numbering resource administration had been developed and administered by the wireline industry, said PCIA. The commission established NANC as the foundation of a new model for administering the North American Numbering Plan, recognizing that competition from new entrants into the telecommunications market warranted wireless representation.

NANC will provide the commission with advice and recommendations reached through a consensus to foster efficient and impartial number administration.

“With so many larger players attacking one another’s turf, it is difficult to see how competition is threatened by these mergers.”

-Rober Crandall, of the Brookings Institution.
