Allen Telecom Group Inc. announced it has reached a purchase agreement with Pacific Bell Mobile Services. The three-year, non-exclusive agreement allows Pac Bell to purchase Allen’s omni-directional and panel antennas and accessories in preparation for building its personal communications services infrastructure for its base station sites in California and Nevada. Pac Bell owns rights to frequencies in the 1850 to 1990 MHz range in two of the 51 regional PCS markets nationwide and expects to provide service to subscribers in early 1997.

DSC Communications Corp. announced it will provide switching equipment as part of Motorola Inc.’s deployment of GTE Mobilnet Inc.’s personal communications services network. GTE Mobilnet selected Motorola’s Cellular Infrastructure Group to deliver the PCS cell site and switching equipment. Motorola will provide GTE with its EMX2500 switching equipment. Using both Code Division Multiple Access and Narrowband Advanced Mobile Phone Service technology, the EMX2500 system will serve as a digital switching platform. DSC supplies hardware for the EMX2500.

SEA Inc., a unit of Datamarine International Inc., said the Federal Communications Commission type-accepted the ESP 1100T ultra-linear high power transmitter. The transmitter, which has a radio frequency output of 100 watts peak-envelope-power, is the latest addition to SEA’s 220 MHz product line of repeater/base stations, mobile radios and its handheld portable phone.

The Personal Communications Industry Association announced a new standard for data transmission over existing paging and new wireless data systems. The TDP protocol suite is a set of communication protocols that provide wireless data messaging capabilities. PCIA said its Paging Technical Committee has adopted the protocol suite as the standard by which information will be entered and transmitted over the current paging infrastructure as well as forthcoming broadband and narrowband personal communications services.

City officials from Coral Gables, Fla., have signed an agreement with L.M. Ericsson for an advanced dispatch radio system. The contract, valued at $5 million, allows Ericsson to supply its Enhanced Digital Access Communications System technology for a 10-channel simulcast network to serve the city’s fire, ambulance and police departments as well as all other city service fleets. Ericsson also will deliver about 500 portable and 170 mobile radios. Ericsson said Coral Gable’s public-safety users will be able to link the system with other radio networks in the county and with government agencies that are implementing an Ericsson EDACS system. Those systems will be completed in early 1996.

Communications & Power Industries acquired Varian Electron Devices Business. Under the name CPI, the company will develop, manufacture and distribute microwave and power grid tubes, radio frequency power amplifiers and other related products for applications in the communications, defense, industrial and medical markets.
