Allen Telecom Group Inc. named F. Kim Goryance president of its Antenna Specialists Division. He will continue the division’s focus on cellular phone antennas and lead its product development for the personal communications services industry. Since joining the division in 1975, Goryance has served as a regional sales manager and as the product manager for mobile antennas. He was named director of marketing for Antenna Specialists in 1987 and appointed director of marketing for Allen Telecom Group in 1992.

Richard D. Ares has been named director of sales for U.S. Intel Wireless. He will be responsible for the company’s affiliation program with PCS PrimeCo L.P. as well as for directing the company’s formation of partnerships with independent telephone companies who plan to bid in the upcoming auction of personal communications services licenses reserved for designated entities.

Ares most recently served as vice president and chief operating officer for AVIS Telecommunications.

Michael P. Bacich was appointed chief operating officer of Telemac Cellular Corp. He most recently served as senior vice president and COO at Linkatel Pacific.

The company also appointed Gregg L. Rowell as director of business development overseeing national and international activities. Chris McGuire was appointed business development representative in the Northeast region.

Paging Network Inc. has named Ross W. Holman vice president of information systems and chief information officer. Holman most recently served as the assistant vice president, business systems development for Sprint Corp. in Reston, Va. In that role, he functioned as chief information officer for four business units with specific responsibilities to develop systems strategy and plans, implement new technologies and provide technology and operations support.

In other news, John P. Frazee Jr. has joined the board of directors of PageNet. He formerly was chairman and chief executive officer of Centel Corp. for six years prior to its merger with Sprint Corp. in 1993. Frazee retired following the merger.

“He brings perspectives and insights concerning the telecommunications industry which are especially valuable as the industry experiences significant growth and begins to offer a wide variety of new products and services to an expanding customer base,” said PageNet Chairman George Perrin.

Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile has appointed T. Lindell Agee as general manager of its NC-1 district retail stores, serving eight western counties in North Carolina. He has 10 years of cellular industry experience as both a manager and consultant.

Richard Sell has been promoted to vice president and general manager of the North Asia market division of Motorola Inc.’s cellular infrastructure group. Based in Hong Kong, Sell will be responsible for market development and system implementation activities in China, Hong Kong, Korea and Taiwan.

He served most recently as vice president and general manager of the Japan cellular infrastructure division where he directed Motorola’s introduction of Personal Digital Cellular systems.

Charles D. Kissner has been elected president and chief executive officer at Digital Microwave Corp. Kissner has 25 years experience in domestic and international technology and telecommunications markets. Most recently, Kissner was vice president and general manager of the Microelectronics Division of M/A-Com Inc.

David Taber and Jane Quinn Schwartz have been appointed to directors’ positions with Comcast Cellular One, a division of Comcast Cellular Communications Inc.

Taber, formerly the company’s marketing manager, now is the director of marketing and communications for the Wilmington and Dover, Del., and Atlantic City, N.J., markets. Schwartz, previously general sales manager for Comcast Cellular’s Dover market, now is director of all sales efforts in Wilmington, Dover and Atlantic City. She also will manage Comcast’s agent network, retailers, auto dealers, direct sales outlets and company-owned stores.

Alltel Corp. appointed Carroll D. McHenry to the newly created position of president of communications services.

In his new position, McHenry will be responsible for Alltel’s communications sector business units, including local telephone and related businesses as well as cellular and other wireless interests. He formerly was president of the company’s cellular and paging unit.

Dennis L. Whipple will succeed McHenry as president of Alltel Mobile Communications Inc.

Century Telephone Enterprises Inc. named Craig Eckert vice president of marketing and sales for its telephone group. His most recent position was vice president of sales for Northern Telecom Inc.

Jim Crabtree was named manager of Telephone Group Region I, headquartered in Alexandria, La. He was most recently director of planning, separations and access for the Chillicothe Telephone Co. in Ohio.

Pertti Johansson has been elected corporate vice president and general manager of Motorola Inc.’s International Cellular Infrastructure Division. He will be responsible for sales and operations of analog and digital cellular systems to countries in Asia, the Middle East, Russia and Africa.

Johansson will also head up the newly established Global Strategic Markets Division, designed to develop Motorola’s global partnerships with customers and coordinate worldwide relationships through all CIG market divisions.

Johansson joined Motorola in 1986 as the director of International Cellular Operations. He was appointed a vice president in 1990 and general manager of ICID in 1992.

William J. Laggett has been elected chairman of IntelCom Group Inc. replacing William Becker, a founder of the company and former chief executive officer, who stepped down as chairman. Laggett is the retired president of Centel Cellular Co.

The company also expanded its board of directors to include Leontis Teryazos, a financial consultant who specializes in advising Canadian emerging growth companies with U.S. expansion plans.

Gwen Carlson has joined Pacific Communication Sciences Inc. as director of corporate communications. She will direct the company’s public relations, advertising and corporate communication activities.

Carlson most recently served as director of corporate communications for Aurora Electronics Inc. Before that, she provided public relations and marketing strategies to such high technology companies as Qualcomm Inc., Fujitsu and Loral Corp.

TEA Group Inc. hired Helen J. Schwert as vice president of operations. She joins the company from AirTouch Communications Inc., where she played a major role in building and operating a successful nationwide digital cellular system in Germany, TEA said.

Software Corporation of America has appointed David Feldstein senior vice president of sales and marketing. He will be responsible for expanding SCA’s role in providing wireless software products.

Feldstein previously spent 16 years with Information Builders Inc., a client-server and middleware software developer. Headquartered in Stamford, Conn., SCA provides software products and communication development tools for wireless connectivity between computers and networks.
