MOTOROLA SNAGS CHINA PACT

The Post and Telecommunication Administration in the Zhejiang Province of China is reconfiguring its existing paging network, based on Motorola Inc.’s M15 series paging terminals, with an order valued at more than $3 million for new Digital Communications Frame-based paging infrastructure equipment.

Motorola’s Paging Products Group said Zhejiang PTA, the province’s largest paging provider, will extend coverage to all cities, counties and several villages in Zhejiang, accommodating 500,000 subscribers. Service is expected to begin by the end of third quarter.

DCF is Motorola’s Global Paging Infrastructure Division’s latest communications trunk system using digital signal processor technology for signal and voice processing over the public telephone interface, noted the company, allowing every call to access voice services without delay.

Nynex goes voice-activated

Cellular users in Albany, N.Y., now can make calls using voice-activated dialing through TalkDial, introduced by Nynex Mobile Communications.

To complete a call, customers press the asterisk then “SEND” on their keypad, speak a four-digit personal identification number and, finally, name who or where they would like to call.

The voice-activation technology platform was customized for Nynex by AT&T Corp., said Kim Ancin, a Nynex spokeswoman. Nynex is first to offer the PIN feature with voice dialing, the company said. Nynex received more than 200 requests for TalkDial in its second day offered.
