BURLINGTON, Mass.-Steinbrecher Corp. said it will supply its DataCell mobile data base stations to Ericsson Radio Systems Inc. to be used in Ericsson cellular digital packet data systems under an original equipment manufacturing agreement between the companies.
The agreement, which Steinbrecher said could be worth $50 million over the life of the contract, solidifies the two companies’ relationship, Steinbrecher said. Steinbrecher already has begun shipping DataCells to Ericsson. Ericsson has been testing the enhanced data delivery system with several cellular carriers throughout the nation.
The DataCell base station provides interoperability and a high quality air interface for the CDPD network, said Steinbrecher. CDPD enables carriers to offer customers over-the-air services such as e-mail, database inquiries, data downloads, credit-card verification and locator services.
Steinbrecher’s wideband technology, the Wideband Sniffer, enables DataCell to reallocate voice channels to transmit data traffic more efficiently without disturbing voice traffic. The Sniffer accomplishes this by examining all cellular channels simultaneously, Steinbrecher said.
Founded in 1973, Steinbrecher specializes in supplying base station products to the cellular industry. The Burlington, Mass.-based company designs and manufactures a number of land mobile infrastructure products for voice, CDPD and personal communications services applications.
