The new Transportation Computing and Communications System has cellular digital packet data-based communications capability. With the Brite Voice technology all callers need to do is touch the “* ” or “#” key and hit the “send” button. Then, by speaking the number, it can be dialed automatically. Ericsson GE Mobile Communications Inc. has developed a portable two-way radio that can access data capabilities of Ericsson’s Enhanced Digital Access Communications System. The new M-RK portable radio extends data flexibility to users in the field. A conversion cable, plugged into the radio and a laptop computer, lets users take advantage of EDACS features such as immediate access and integrated voice and data capability. The synthesized models are expected to reduce delivery time, which usually is about six to eight weeks for crystallized versions.
